The Center for Economic and Environmental Development (CEED) engages Allegheny College students, faculty, and the community in creating innovative approaches to environmental stewardship, environmental education, and regional revitalization.

CEED's Local Foods Network was pioneered by Jennifer DeHart, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science, and her community partners in 2003. On May 11, 2010, Jennifer lost a five-year battle with cancer. She is greatly missed by all those who knew her and worked closely with her. Jennifer had a lifelong passion for protecting the environment and promoting sustainable living. She worked tirelessly to develop a strong network of local farmers and community members, helping to establish a solid foundation for a growing and vital local foods movement in Meadville.

During the coming year CEED will consult with Jennifer's community partners to help determine the future of the program she created, which was developed to facilitate cooperation among local producers, local markets and local consumers in support of a diverse and healthy local foods network.
